The Mount Baker backcountry is world renowned for the variety of terrain and the utterly stunning beauty. Snowshoeing is the perfect way for beginner-level winter wilderness travelers to access some of the most wild and scenic backcountry in the United States.

The snowshoe route that we take is sandwiched between two incredibly beautiful mountains. Mount Baker, a nearly 11,000 foot volcanic summit blanketed in glaciers, towers over our route to the west. And to the east, stands one of the most photogenic mountains in the world, Mount Shuksan. This is a complex peak draped in steep blue-tinted glaciers and ice-cliffs, which are highlighted by dramatic rock ridgelines. The beauty of this route and the nature of these views are absolutely breathtaking.

We offer snowshoe trips to the Mount Baker backcountry throughout the winter season. Our courses start at our office in Fairhaven, a scenic community in Bellingham at 11:00am. After outfitting each snowshoer with the appropriate gear, we will make the drive up to the end of the Mount Baker Highway. From there, we will work our way up a groomed trail to Artist Point where beautiful vistas are literally panoramic. From there we will work our way out into the ungoomed winter wonderland of the Ptarmigan Ridge. Depending on time and energy, we may explore a number of different areas including Table Mountain, the Coleman Pinnacle or even the Herman Saddle. After taking in the backcountry, we will return to the van and travel back to Bellingham, arriving at about 6:00 in the evening.

The guides on this tour will provide you with as much instruction and insight as possible during your time out. Our guides are some of the most talented backcountry skiers and climbers in the world. On this snowshoe trip, they will provide you with insight as to how to read the terrain for avalanche danger, how to travel effectively in the winter, how to pack light and how to dress properly and take care of yourself in extreme environments.
Cost:
- 1:1 = $300 per person per day
- 2:1 = $175 per person per day
- 3 or more people = $100 per person per day
Inclusions: Guide's fee, snowshoes, and transportation to and from the program area.
Exclusions: Personal winter clothing. Meals and snacks while snowshoeing.Transportation is not included on private (1:1) trips.
